O LORD my God, our soul is thirsting for you
We are thirsting for Your Love
We are thirsty for Your Redemption and your salvation
Above all, we are thirsty for Your Wisdom
Today in our Divine Sermon we are celebrating Jesus the Master of Wisdom. And the Theme of our Reflection is Wisdom in Action
Wisdom is the opposite of foolishness. It is the quality of having rich experience, sound knowledge, and good judgment. It is the most sensible way of thinking and acting. A wise person is a sensible person. A sensible person is one who fears the Lord. As the book of Proverbs 9:10 rightly declares, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Proverbs 9:10). The wise ones are those who are loyal to the LORD God, who is the Author of Wisdom.
The Book of Wisdom 6:12-16 defines Wisdom as Radiant and Unfading: “Wisdom is radiant and unfading, and she is easily discerned by those who love her, and is found by those who seek her. She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her.” Wisdom does not expire, it does not fade away. It is the brightest value on earth.
Where and how can one find Wisdom? According to the Author of the book of Wisdom, “He who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for he will find her sitting at his gates.” Finding wisdom at your gate simply means that wisdom is reachable and achievable to those who are interested. Child of God, as long as you are ready to receive wisdom into your life, wisdom will never be far from you. You will surely find her whenever you look for her.
The author of the book of Wisdom further highlights the benefits of wisdom: “To fix one’s thought on her is perfect understanding, and he who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care, because she goes about seeking those worthy of her, and she graciously appears to them in their paths, and meets them in every thought.” Exactly! Wisdom is indeed the channel of perfect understanding. It is the surest path to freedom.
The gospel of Matthew 25:1-13 presents Jesus Christ as the Master of Wisdom. As the Master of Wisdom, Jesus taught his disciples Wisdom in Action. He told them one of the wisest parables on earth. According to him,
“The kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten maidens who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
“But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ “Then all those maidens rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ “But the wise replied, ‘Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’
“And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Afterward the other maidens came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ “But he replied, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”
The five wise virgins represents those who are alert and always at their duty post whereas the foolish virgin represent the lazy and careless ones. If you want to be wise must make haste while the sun shines. Be at alert and be ready at all times. As you do so it shall be well with you in Jesus name – Amen!
James 3:15-17: 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
